This will be another shorter post for this week. I'm still trying to figure out some upcoming things for my blog and may or may not post them on Thursday. I feel like this break is just going to be very flexible and loose as to how much or what I am going to post.
It can get so hectic this time of year, so I am taking small steps and getting more creative as I collect new things and am inspired by other bloggers. So, lately I have been using this one mascara and I really can't put it down.
The Rimmel Scandaleyes mascara has really proven to lift and curl my lashes so well. I love my Tarte Lash, Camera, Lashes and my Better Than Sex mascaras, but this one is probably up next to those two in terms of how great it is. Yeah, and I've used the Maybelline Lash Sensational, and that's good too, but I am trying to branch out and this one really does it.
I am in the process of trying out so many new makeup products because there are so many gift sets and whatnot. I do have some gift guides in store and might post both the same week because Christmas is a' comin! Jeez time flies. What are you doing to prepare for the holidays? I just finished my Christmas shopping, yee!
I have just written my gift guide for her, but thought it would be fun to make a post geared to stocking stuffers, too. I don't know if it's a Christmas tradition for everyone, but for my family, it's all about the little things: makeup, candy, Silly Putty, you get the rest. Even if you are doing a small gift exchange with some friends, there are a lot of little things, like beauty products, that make perfect gifts. I know Sephora has great minis and travel sized products that are affordable and so cute not to get for that beauty lover!
I really think everyone appreciates a little skincare and especially when it's firming and lifting. Who wants wrinkles anyway? I think that the Lancome Renergie Microlift is amazing at making my skin feel tight and awake. I feel like it really lifts my skin! Along with it, eye cream is really nice to get as a gift. I think a lot of people don't really pay attention to their eyes as much and it's vital to make sure they are hydrated and moisturized, too. The Trate Maracuja C-Brighter Eye Treatment is so rich and is one of my favorite eye creams.
Also, nail polish is something that I think goes a little underrated when it comes to gifts. The Essie Tassel Shaker nail polish has been my favorite for a long time now and it's perfect for the holiday season. Especially for New Years!
I really think the Shiseido Wrinkleresist24 Balancing Softner is so amazing on my skin. I normally like to use it on a cotton pad after I cleanse my face and all that jazz. I still think it's never too early to start preventing fine lines. The perfect gift!
I also love receiving perfume and you can get full size or roller balls to put in stockings. The Sexy Rio de Janeiro by Marc Jacobs is a very fruity and musky scent that I am drawn to. It's like wearing paradise. Who doesn't want that?
I'm never one to really ask for anything hair related, but the Ouai Texturizing Hairspray has me swoon. I've never found a really nice texturizing hairspray, and its the only product I use for my hair anyway. Why not treat yo self! They also have travel sizes that are perfect for stocking stuffers.
I think lipsticks are the perfect stocking stuffer and liquid lipsticks are really on trend. The Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit in Rebel Rose is the classic nude pink for a lot of skin types. It doesn't really crack on the lips like most liquid lips and it is super affordable. I'm utterly obsessed.
As the holidays become right around the corner, I am still shocked by how fast this month has gone by. It happens every single year! Why not make this year's Christmas worth while with some great Christmas/holiday gift ideas? I hope you all have a very nice holiday with all the people and food you love. I know I will. I will be back next Tuesday with a new post. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

Over the course of my makeup experience, covering up acne, scars, and other imperfections have been one of the subconscious steps in my makeup routine. Concealing and correcting my imperfections has been something that I continuously do whenever I put makeup on. Even if I don't put full coverage foundation on, I like to use concealer anyway to ensure that my face is at least presentable and even. These products have been lifesavers when it comes to unwanted breakouts and really late nights.
I have a couple concealers and correctors, that are all pretty much dupes for eachother, but I thought I would share the ones I feel have been really nice on my skin lately. I have been loving the Bobbi Brown Face Corrector to help neutralize my dark circles and odd pigmentation that I have due to scarring on my skin. It is very creamy and is buildable as you want it to be. I think a small amount can really make a difference. Along with the corrector, I have used the Stila Stay All Day Concealer on top of it where I feel like I need more coverage and assistance.
I recently found a more inexpensive dupe for both the concealer and corrector, which is the Almay Smart Shade CC Concealer + Brightener. This is a great duo for traveling and has the same consistency and coverage as both the corrector and concealer. It is a great option for someone who doesn't want to spend so much on face products, especially as little as these ones are. I always have concealer, if not corrector, on hand with me when I feel like my face needs a little help sometimes on bad skin days.
Let's be honest, most days we wake up and try to roll out of bed, but we can't because we are just too tired. College has introduced me to so much more free time and sleep time. I don't normally think about putting on a full face of makeup when I wake up for a 9 am class, but when I do, it is minimal and very natural. I have still been loving a few products and my routines haven't changed a lot. I am still trying to use up products before the holiday season and I think it is good to use products for a while that you enjoy instead of buying new ones over and over.
When it comes to a lazier morning, I try to make sure I moisturize a ton. Usually, it wakes me up and I can count on my skin being soft and smooth throughout my lectures that I have. The Lancome Renergie Lift cream has been the most hydrating and repairing for my very dry skin now that it's almost winter. I apply a dime size amount and immediately feel relieved of dryness and redness. I will also follow it with the Lancome Renergie Microlift cream on spots where my skin looks a little tired or around my jawline and neck to really waken up my skin.
Next, I usually like to put on a primer, even though I'm not wearing any face makeup. I have found that for my lazy days, the Too Faced Hangover Primer does the best to my skin to make sure my pores are minimized and my skin looks fresh and bright for the day. It has more of a dewy finish, which can make you look more healthy and "alive" for classes.
Over any dark spots or acne that I might have, I do like to correct them and make my face look somewhat even. I use the Bobbi Brown Color Corrector under my eyes and around trouble spots. It really helps when you wake up with sleep marks and dark under eyes. I do like to add a pop of color to my face sometimes, and the Tarte Flush Cheek Stain is sheer enough to look very natural. I top off my look with just a couple swipes of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and I am good to go!
This can usually take me about five minutes or less to achieve and it is practical for me on most days when I can hardly get out of bed to go to class. The last thing I want to deal with is a full face of products and it just makes everything easier when I don't have to worry about it. I usually like to spritz a body spray or perfume on before I leave and my Jo Malone Peony and Blush Suede perfume is my classic scent of choice. What is your lazy day routine like?
There's a lot more to the "perfect autumn outfit" than one may think. While the cosiness of wearing no makeup, sweats, and just cuddling up in our blankets all day may seem like the most amazing thing ever on these cold and crisp days, it might not be the most practical when it comes to making plans with friends or even trying to make it out of your warm bed. When I feel like I need to be a little more "presentable" shall we say, I like to add a bit more color to my ever-so-pale and tired face. Let's be honest, we're all pretty tired this time of year, adding a pop of pigment will do the right trick!
I have really been trying to venture outside of my comfort zone more this fall and I have really missed wearing vibrant lipstick. I used to sophomore year of high school a ton, and I don't know why I stopped because everyone liked it on me. I know for a fact that over the past years, I have been really into nude and blush-toned lips, but I still think classic reds will never go out of trend.
The Maybelline Color Sensational lip range has struck me as one of the best drugstore lipstick ranges I have discovered. They have literally every kind of shade and every type of lipstick you might want for a really nice price. The lipsticks themselves are very great quality and are very pigmented and opaque.
The Dynamite Red is the perfect blue-red that makes your teeth really white and is also the "Gigi" red lip if you've ever noticed her signature red shade. I am really in love with this statement shade and think it is perfect for the fall and winter. I also have a berry shade, obviously!
I am loving the look of berry shades on all skin types and it's the perfect color for fall. This shade is called Deepest Cherry and really is that perfect reddish purple. It looks like you've been eating a ton of cherries! The Maybelline lip range has loads of different shades and types of lipstick that I can't even tell you how many there are. I would definitely recommend checking it out because they're a great price for what they're worth.

I know that the "natural brow" has become more of a trend lately, and I have to say that I'm loving it. I've always been messing with my brows and trying to change the way they look, but really, less is more when it comes to filling them in and trying to reshape them. I've found that the fewer products you use and the fewer strokes you make, the less there will be room for uneven, catastrophic brows.
I've been using a couple Anastasia Beverly Hills products and just recently bought the Brow Wiz pencil which has been way easier than the pomade. I was using the pomade for a while and felt like it maybe intensified my brows more than I like them to be.
With this Brow Wiz pencil, I can make smaller strokes on my brows and have it look way more natural. I really love how it is a little waxier and the little spoolie on the other end is very helpful. I don't know if there is an exact "trick" persay, but I know that you do not need to outline your brows drastically to achieve this look.
I also know that when you groom, pluck or wax your brows, you don't want to do it so much that every single stray hair is gone. Since the look is natural, you should leave some hairs on the outside of the brows. I know I really like this natural brow look, but I was wondering what all of you think. Are the more natural and minimal makeup looks seeming to become the new thing?
It's honestly been so long since the last time I bought new makeup that wasn't something I had already owned before. I've just been so content with the makeup I have and use constantly that I feel like I have no need (or money cause your college girl is broke) to go out and just buy new stuff yet. I have been tempted by the new Fenty range and the new palettes that are coming out, but I love what I already have.
With that said, I have made some guilty Mac purchases when I was in Nordstrom Rack because they were at a considerably low price for what they are normally retailed for. I think these two products are the most recent purchases I have made and I am totally okay with it!
This first product I chose was a stretch from my normal makeup that I use. And to be honest, it was kind of an accident because I don't usually like cream based anything that's supposed to be a powder. However, the Mac Casual Lips and Cheek Color in Keep It Loose is probably my new favorite blush. It's a subtle peachy pink and is perfect for this time of year when the air begins to get crisp. The creaminess doesn't bother me that much because it blends really nicely and doesn't cake on like many cream-based blushes and cheek colors sometimes do.
My next purchase was a new eyeliner pen because I have loved the sleekness of them and their longevity. With pencil liners, I feel like I always touch my eye makeup and fixing it, but this one stays in place and is so easy to use. The Mac Penultimate Liner is a thin and very opaque pen that is easy for all eyeliner beginners.
Blush has been something that I haven't really gone deep into because I have loved the way bronzers golden up my face more than blush brings out the redness, but this one doesn't and just adds a soft pigment to my cheeks. I have had a lot of luck lately with Mac and would recommend looking at your local Norstrom Rack for some really good deals on their products now.
I think the time is due for an updated picks post. Especially now that my makeup collection has been starting to evolve and I have added some new products to it, I think I can finally share some different products on here that I haven't tried before. I'd say that my makeup routine starts to pick up more into the colder months, the heat is no friend to a full face of makeup. I've tried to add more color to my makeup collection and have been loving subtle pops of pigment on the face.
This first product has been a cult favorite for so long and I still wear by the Benefit Hoola Bronzer. It's the perfect matte bronzer and isn't the wrong shade of orangey brown. It adds a nice golden glow on the cheeks.
I have been really loving the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Rosegold on my eyelids because it gives off the most beautiful shimmer and color for fall. I haven't used it much on my face, but I do really like the way it looks as an eyeshadow.
This was actually a very recent purchase of mine. I was looking for a really nice, semi-matte lipstick and was inspired by Gigi Hadid and her classic red lip. What better way to find one that she actually uses! I got the shade Dynamite Red in the Maybelline Color Sensational collection and really love the way it looks. It's perfect for making your teeth look whiter and is the perfect bold shade for fall.
I also picked up a new Mac cream blush in Hush, which is a bit different than the normal powder blushes. I think it adds a really nice pigment and makes you look healthy and glowy! It's easy to apply and I find a Beauty Blender works best.
I have been raving over this Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara. It pretty much does everything: curls, lengthens and volumizes. It has olive ester oils to condition my lashes and make them strong and protects them. It's been my go-to whenever I reach for mascara.
I'm in love with fall makeup trends and all of the warm pigments and palettes that have been released. I feel like my makeup game even gets better as it gets colder because of how much I can actually do with my makeup now. Do you feel the same way about makeup in the colder months?
Over the past couple of weeks I have really been feeling college in my eyes. Literally. I don't know if it's just from adjusting to a new place, but I feel like my sleep has been all over the place lately. I'm always looking for more sleep remedies, but it kind of comes to just covering up my bags and dark circles with makeup--which isn't always the best way to look "alive".
I bought this little Tarte Wide Awake eye kit as I was checking out of Sephora and am really loving it. It's a very convenient way to treat your eyes especially if they're been staring at a paper for a couple hours on the computer. It's pretty inexpensive for the three really nice sample products you get. In the kit you get these awesome, gel eye patches and I have actually been saving them for a more stressful time of the year, like finals, to put them to good use. Right now they're in my mini fridge at school and I can't wait to use them when I am really feeling the finals week blues. You also get a mini eye treatment which has been very moisturizing under my eyes and keeps them refreshed and not dry or red.
It also includes a mini Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara which I was the most excited to try out. Also, travel mascaras are normally twelve dollars, so I thought you really got more for your money this way. I love how the mascara curls and lengthens my lashes really well. Despite the not-so-cute packaging, it is actually a really great mascara.
I know when my workload gets a bit more heavy at college I am going to really love using these products on days I don't feel alive or want to even go to class. The total pick-me-up!
It's that time of year again when the air begins to get crisp and the leaves begin to change. I know in Chicago it's still eighty degrees (which is insanely abnormal), but the leaves on many trees are already changed and bright yellow or orange. I thought I would kick off my series of fall related posts with a much needed "Makeup Favorites". To be honest, I haven't been purchasing much more new makeup.
It must be my will to keep using what I already have and what I already have, I love anyway. So, I thought I would share what I am still currently loving and will be using this upcoming fall.
For my eyes, I have been loving the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. It has really been my go-to eye product recently and can curl my lashes better than most of my other mascaras and ones I have tried in the past. It's a cult favorite. I have also been loving the Essence Brow Designer as an inexpensive alternative to any of the Anastasia brow products. It is very handy when I am traveling and don't want to bring a spoolie.
For fall, I know that my nude lip shades will be a necessity. The Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit matte lipstick in Rebel Rose is one of my favorite shades for this upcoming season. It lasts all day and gives off great color.
I have had some go-to base products that I am obsessed with, as well. The Too Faced Hangover Primer has been my favorite hydrating primers that I have ever used and love the coconut scent. The foundation that I have still been using is the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint. It keeps my face looking matte and also hides any dry patches I might have or get as the colder months come.
I have also been finding that this amazingly inexpensive Wet n Wild eyeshadow primer has impressed me so much compared to any higher end primer. It's probably my favorite at the moment and I don't think anyone should have to pay more than five dollars for a great one.
I have also been using the Mac Studio Fix Powder to make sure my makeup is set and matte for all day long. It has been one of my must haves because I always find this to be the savior if my face ever needs a quick touch up or fix.
To add a bit of color to my cheeks, I have been using up my NYX Terra Cotta blush. This golden color is probably my favorite cheek color I've used. It creates a very subtle warm glow. If I want more, I love to add a bit of my Benefit Hoola Bronzer around my cheeks and on my jaw line.
To add some color to my eyes, the definition of fall is in this Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette. All of the golden browns, rich reds, and vibrant oranges have me swoon. This palette is a favorite of a lot of beauty gurus and lovers, so it had to make it on my fall beauty favorites. You can make so many different looks with this palette and the shades are so well pigmented. I am so ready to where this look this season!
Surprisingly, Chicago has been very cool and today it reached a high of 65 degrees. Even with the sun beating down, it can sometimes get a little toasty. We are blessed with better weather that's not so oppressively hot or humid and I haven't been wearing much on my face. However, I do every now and then love to dress up and I have been loving breathable makeup. Not "natural", but comfortable makeup.
I have some older and newer products that I have been enjoying a lot this summer and I really haven't stopped using the Naked 2 Basics Palette. They are all classic colors and I love wearing taupe shades on my lids. For my eyebrows, I have been continuing to use the Anastasia Brow Pomade in Medium Brown. It has been one of my favorite brow products and I have really been wanted to try out the Brow Whiz.
As for my face, I keep it pretty simple. I normally wear a BB cream and a light powder. I wear a light base and use the Rimmel BB Cream. I love it because it protects my skin with SPF 25 and covers my imperfections without being too thick.
After I apply it with a Beauty Blender, I dust on some Mac Studio Fix Powder to mattify and keep my face from getting oily. I really love this powder and it's great to travel with because it has a mirror and a compartment for a sponge.
Sometimes I like to line my under eyes with the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Gold Rush and it adds a bit of dimension and color. Then I will usually line my eyes with the L'Oreal Lineur Intense Eyeliner which has a great and easy applicator and gives you very sleek and thin lines.
To top it all off, I have been loving the Covergirl Plumpify Mascara because of how much it volumizes and "plumps" my lashes.
Lately, I have loved pink lips and a subtle pop of color on the lips has been in this season. The Laura Mercier Lipstick in French Kiss is a great pink tint for the summer. What type of makeup look have you been loving this summer?
It's the middle of July (woah) and that means oppressive heat and sunny days...and chapped lips. I know that no one desires to have chapped lips and recently I have been consistent with moisturizing and exfoliating my lips.
I have always been a chapstick and lipstick obsessor, but lately I have been loving lip scrubs and exfoliators. They leave you with amazingly soft lips and there are even some great ones at the drugstores.
Before I use any lip products, it has been added to my makeup and skincare routine to exfoliate my lips because I have forgotten how important it is to take care of them. I was at Target a while ago and stumbled across the Elf section and was wondering why there was a mint green lipstick! To my surprise it was a lip exfoliator. The best part? It's in a tube! No mess and great minty taste. I also got this other clear one that tastes like Shea butter or cocoa butter. You just apply it to damp lips, massage in circular motions, and try not to lick it all off (hehe). These are so inexpensive and great for on the go and no more sticking your clean fingers into sugar scrub pots.
I have always been a huge EOS fan and all of their products have been mentioned if not loved. I was that teenager who was obsessed with lip balms and tints and I had one of every flavor or color and couldn't finish any of them, but just didn't care. It may sound pathetic, but it might show how much I actually love and continue to use them. I have never found that the Blueberry Acai has been a current favorite and I also really love Summer Fruit.
Another balm I have been using, which is also a classic favorite of mine, is the Burt's Bees Bring Back the Bees Coconut and Pear lip balm. It is so summery and I will always support environmental movements or campaigns that companies do. It's nice to switch back and forth to have options. Both give very smooth and soft lips. What has been your favorite lip balm?
